COMMUNITY GROUP/ EVENT AWARD -2009 Tag-Along Tour
(Pittsworth Rotary Club)
The eight-day, 2000km tour of outback Queensland saw a convoy of 20 vehicles and 48 participants travel through a variety of communities – purchasing food and fuel supplies from local merchants. The group also raised money for local primary and secondary schools as well as sponsoring Science forums, leadership and enrichment camps and overseas exchange studies. It has also resulted in a substantial pledge to the Pittsworth Hospital Foundation.
Corporate Services portfolio leader and Australia Day Committee member Cr John McVeigh said this year’s winners could hold their heads high in the knowledge that their selfless commitment embodied what community spirit was all about.
“The way these people and organisations represent themselves and their township is a real credit to them,” Cr McVeigh said. “They don’t do what they do for praise or recognition; they simply want to improve the lives of those around them. Each of these individuals and groups stand as an inspiration to their neighbours and as role models in their community and are thoroughly deserving of their acknowledgement today.”
